Giuseppe Metere

Associate Professor of Algebra

I am Giuseppe (Beppe) Metere, Associate Professor of Algebra at the Università degli Studi di Milano.

I work at the Dipartimento di Scienze per gli Alimenti, la Nutrizione e l'Ambiente (DEFENS), Università degli Studi di Milano. My research is in algebra and category theory, with particular emphasis on categorical algebra, universal algebra, homological and semi-abelian methods, and algebraic logic.

I am interested in the way algebraic structures can be understood through categorical methods, and conversely in how concrete algebraic examples suggest new categorical questions.

Since December 2023 I have been a member of the Accademia Nazionale Scienze Lettere e Arti of Palermo.

I am also a co-founder and member of the steering committee of ItaCa, the Italian community of category theorists.

I have been awarded the Italian national qualification for full professor in both Mathematical Logic and Algebra.
